Although many people depended on Google Photos for its free photos storage, from June 2021, you will have to pay to use the Cloud Storage app – that is to say unless you own a pixel phone from Google.
You see, the pixel smartphones have been sold with promises of Google Photos and the company can not go back rightly to one of the high points of sale of phones.
However, the benefits depend on which pixel phone you have, so some people receive more advantages of Google photos than others.
If you want to know what benefits you get for your phone, we have listed them below. And it’s worth buying a new one or old Google Pixel phone only for cloud storage space? We will explore that too.
Full quality backup for ‘Life’
Google Pixel XL
If you have the original Google Pixel or Pixel XL, then you are lucky because you get your original full quality backup for life. You must stay perfectly unconscious about Google’s photos.
By complete quality, we hear an “original” mode, which saves the photo in the resolution you have taken – “high quality” is that imposes a resolution cap, comfortably.
Just be warned that when we say “for life”, we do not want to say for your life, but your phone. When your mobile phone dust and you have to buy a new one, this unlimited storage will be completed. So take good care of this smartphone.
Full quality backup … for now
Google Pixel 3
Google Pixel 3 XL
After his first-generation pixel phones, Google stopped offering an original life storage – maybe he realizes to offer a free “for life” service could be expensive. Instead, it defines a time cap – and if you have a third-party pixel phone, you have time.
The Google 3 and 3 XL pixels make it possible to continue to back up the original storage until the end of January 20, 2022, then they will be abandoned at the lower level. This offers unlimited “high quality” storage, but requires you to pay if your original photos exceed 15 GB.

The vast majority of Google phones benefit from unlimited high quality storage. Keep in mind that “high quality” actually means “capped at 16 GB”, and it is the original storage that allows you to keep the photos at the resolution you have taken them.
For most pixel phones, this cap does not matter because their cameras do not exceed this resolution.
Remember that if, for any reason, you want to store original photos – maybe another device – you only get 15 GB storage before you can pay. And these storage stacks with what you used on other Google applications, so if you have 14.5 GB of file files, you can easily overcome the limit.
Is it worth buying a Google Pixel phone for Google Photos?
If you are a user Avid Google Photos, you plan to buy a pixel phone only for the benefits, but it may not be the wisest idea.
Why do we say that? Well, while Google Pixel phones are not exactly expensive, it does not really cost much to save your storage limit on your Google account by a huge amount. We have a photo pricing guide from Google Photos so that you can see how much it costs but, for a brief overview, it does not really break the bank.
In fact, if you buy a pixel phone for unlimited high quality storage, you will probably end up spending more money than you have just purchased storage.
Of course, there are other reasons to buy a pixel phone too, like their Android stock or small bodies. So, if you are already considering buying a pixel phone, it could be enough to swing balance, but we do not recommend binning a perfectly good phone for this reason.
